Description
3D model of the Chief Red Cloud's tomahawk, Pohrt Collection (1876)
About the prototype:
The Native American pipe tomahawk, dated approximately 1870, owned by Red Cloud (1822 - 12/10/1909), the chief of the North American Indian tribe Oglala Sioux, who lived on the territory of the modern state South Dakota, USA. Chief Red Cloud is known for the fact that as a result of the armed conflict between the United States and Indian tribes, which lasted from 1866 to 1868, he was able to force American troops to leave the territory of the Powder River Valley and conclude an agreement with them on favorable terms for the Indians. The tomahawk has a large spontoon (esponton - a piercing pole cold weapon, a kind of spear, consisting of a figured feather, a crown, a cross between them, a help and a long shaft) blade with a unique cutout in the form of a bat wing and round tangs with holes, and a smoking bowl. The blade has a shaped notch and is embossed with the inscription "Owned by Red Cloud - A Sioux Chief - 1876". The handle of the tomahawk is made of ash. This tomahawk originally belonged to the Santee Indian School and is now in the Chandler-Pohrt collection of the Dallas Museum of Art.
The tomahawk is made of iron, ash wood.
